Sources for AED program funding
1. Local corporations and corporate foundations
2. Local civic organizations
*Local and state chapters have funded numerous AED programs
3. Hospital foundations: Contact area hospital for funding opportunities and/or search the internet using "hospital foundations" as key words.
4. Private foundations: These non-governmental non-profit organizations award funds primarily to other non-profit organizations.
5. Public charities: See the National Directory of Grantmaking Public Charities at www.foundationcenter.org.
6. Government grants
Federal
- Rural AED Act: Authorized $25 million for rural AED programs; $12.5 million appropriated for FY 02.
- S 1275: would authorize $55 million/year for five years for AED programs.
- HR 630/S727 would provide funding for CPR training in schools and AED training in schools with existing CPR training programs.
State
- Pennsylvania: Grants available for AED placement in schools.
- Texas: Grants available through tobacco settlement funds.
- Contact your state EMS agency for opportunities in your area.
